The Poumai Naga Tribe is one of the
biggest tribes among the Nagas predominantly inhabiting in the Senapati
District of Manipur as well as Phek District in Nagaland. They have their
own unique and enriched cultural and traditional customs. The 2001 census
recorded a population of 1,44,505 in Manipur and there are about 6500
Poumai in Phek district, Nagaland. Therefore the total polulation of
Poumai is 1,51,005. The language of the Poumai is called "Poula", It has a
myriads ways of expression and humors in communicating to each other.
Poula is unique and very rich in language. Poumai Naga Tribe is one of the
major and oldest tribes among the Naga tribes. They have a number of
festivals, songs, dances and other performing arts. Poumais are well known
for their bright and colorful traditional attires and costumes with
